Art in Markaplassen School

'Blå strek II'. Artist: Oddvar I.N. Daren 2003/2009. Art consultant: Anne Tove Huse.

The iron construction ‘Blå strek’ (‘Blue line’) moves in a variety of angles and heights, and may resemble a difficult geometry task, as it stands with its problematic shape just outside the classroom windows at Markaplassen School. The sculpture created problems of another nature to begin with, as the pupils not only looked at this work of art, but also used it to climb and sit on. The school and the artist thus had to communicate the purpose of this art project before the blue work of art was accepted and respected by the pupils. As a safety precaution, the sculpture was later reinforced, and in its new version it was renamed ‘Blå strek II’.
