Art - Memorial Plaque to Johan Caspar von Cicignon

Artist: Nic. Schiøll 1935. 

The memorial plaque features a relief portrait of General Major Johan Caspar von Cicignon (1635–96). Born in Luxembourg, he was a famous fortress architect. In 1657, he became a Danish officer, and after the great city fire in 1681 he was given the assignment, together with Anthony Coucheron, to make a new city plan for Trondheim. Nic(olai) Schiøll was Wilhelm Rasmussen's pupil. From 1927 to 1937, he was connected to Nidaros Cathedral, where he modelled nine statues for the west front.
