From February 26 to March 9, the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships will be held in Trondheim. It’s often said that Norwegians are born with skis on their feet – this is your chance to find out.
Two Venues for the Ski Championships
The Nordic World Ski Championships feature cross-country skiing, ski jumping, and Nordic combined, where athletes compete in both ski jumping and cross-country skiing.
All competitions will take place at the cross-country and ski jumping arenas in Granåsen, in the southern parts of Trondheim. Every evening, from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM, there will be medal ceremonies and concerts at Trondheim’s main square (Torget).
These evening events are free and open to everyone.
It’s rare to host the Ski Championships in Norway, so this is a golden opportunity to experience something truly unique. Skiing is our national sport, and the enthusiasm is huge. This will be a special Ski Championships, with more spectators and a richer cultural program than anywhere else in the world.

How to get to Granåsen
Driving to Granåsen will not be possible during the championships, but shuttle buses will run from Munkegata in the city center directly to the competitions in Granåsen.
During the Ski Championships, we will transport around 300,000 people. This will help make this the most sustainable Nordic World Ski Championships ever.

Get out on the trails – It’s free
- just stay clear of the track!
In Norway, it’s a long-standing tradition to cheer on cross-country skiers along the trails.
In this country, we welcome everyone to experience the championships for free – out in the forest. Word has it that many are planning to make the trip, so there’s going to be an amazing atmosphere there too.

If this sounds appealing, just take the bus to Granåsen and either walk or ski into the trails.
“Just remember to dress warmly and bring something hot to drink. Proper winter boots and a seating pad to stand on are especially important.”
She also encourages people to bring energy to the trails.
“In Norway, it’s common to cheer loudly. Feel free to bring a bell, flags, or something similar,” she suggests.

A Wide Range of Offerings
Snøfugl also recommends buying tickets to the competitions. At the championships arena in Granåsen, you can watch all the competitions with commentary and enjoy many facilities to keep you comfortable all day.
There will be a great selection of delicious local food and drinks, heated tents, and several big screens where you can follow the ski stars throughout the races.

Additionally, there will be a variety of activities for those who want a break from the competitions.
There will be Ski Championships merchandise for sale, four different stages hosting local bands, choirs, and artists, and a dedicated family area in Litjåsen with ski games and shows featuring the Ski Championships mascot, Snedi.

A Citywide Celebration
You don’t have to travel to Granåsen to join the festivities. Many different events in the city are being organized by groups other than the Ski Championships.
These include kids’ ski races in Søndre, ski activities at Marinen, concerts at various venues, art exhibitions, and a food street with local specialties right next to the main square.
“There will be bustling city life,” says Snøfugl.
As mentioned, the medal concerts at the square are free, but they might fill up, so Snøfugl recommends arriving early. Norwegian artists like Astrid S, DDE, and Marcus & Martinus will perform.
“Local artists will kick off the shows at 6:30 PM before the headliners take the stage at 7 PM. This will be a perfect warm-up for our medal ceremonies,” she says.
Focus on Sustainability
The setup at the square begins on February 10, and everything built will be removed and reused elsewhere after the Ski Championships are over.
Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do.
