Traveling in the Greater Trondheim region often involves AtB, the publicly subsidized mobility provider serving all of Trøndelag County.
AtB (Public Transport)
AtB is the primary public transportation provider in the region, offering buses, trams, and ferries to various destinations within Trondheim and beyond. The app will give you walking options and -times. Tickets also typically give some access to micro mobility like eBikes and City bikes.

eBikes (Voi, Ryde, Tier)
Rent electric bikes from providers like Voi, Ryde, and Tier to easily navigate around Trondheim, Stjørdal, Melhus, Orkland, Skaun and Malvik.

Bysykkel (City Bikes)
Trondheim's City Bike program provides an easy way to rent bikes for short trips across the city.
Short term car rental
Car rentals through services like Hyre are available for short-term use. You can rent cars on a per-minute or hourly basis.

Trains
Vy and SJ operates trains for both local and long-distance travel, offering services to other major cities in Norway like Oslo, Bodø and Lillehammer as well as towns and cities in the region.
Going by train to Bergen or Stavanger would include going via Oslo and changing. Many use that option, but getting a sleeper seat or cabin might be preferrable on those journeys.

Trondheim Airport (Værnes)
Trondheim Airport, Værnes (TRD), is the main airport in the region, providing both domestic and international flights.

Direct routes to 15 international destinations and hub in addition to most Norwegian airports. Get there by bus or train. - Domestic Airlines: SAS, Norwegian, Widerøe
Ørland Airport (OLA) is fairly easily accessible from Trondheim - DAT flies Ørland-Oslo.
Walking and Cycling Paths
Trondheim and many of the towns and cities in the region are built to be walkable. Trondheim also has an extensive cycle road network. If your commute is within walking distance - check UT.no, Miljøpakken / MIljøpakken cycle paths, Google maps (cycling paths) and other resources to see what the ideal walking or cycle route is.
Greater Trondheim region is known for its scenic walking paths, including trails in Bymarka, along the river, and through green spaces like Leinstranmarka and Tillerparken. Perfect for both leisurely walks and more serious hiking.
